No fewer than six suspected fraudsters have been arrested by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) for allegedly staging fake miracles to defraud residents in Idanre Local Government area of the Ondo state.
The suspects, identified as Fadahunsi, Kolade, Tijani, Iyanuoluwa, Arijesulola and Ademola reportedly operated in an organised manner, assigning specific roles to maintain a convincing facade of legitimacy.
The image maker of the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said in a statement that the suspects were apprehended on February 16 following a well-coordinated, intelligence-driven operation involving tactical teams and Community Safety Officers.
Jimoh urged residents to exercise caution, verify claims and avoid falling prey to individuals who use religion or fake miracles as a cover for criminal activities. He advised the public to report suspicious gatherings to the nearest police station.
The command reiterated its commitment to ridding Ondo State of criminal elements through strategic operations, community partnerships and continuous intelligence gathering to protect lives and property.
According to the statement, “Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects posed as pastors and spiritual leaders, claiming to perform miracles and provide divine solutions to victims’ financial and health problems. They allegedly used the guise of religion to gain the trust of unsuspecting individuals before defrauding them.
“Further investigation is ongoing to ascertain the total number of victims, determine the financial magnitude of the fraud, and identify other collaborators who may still be at large.
“All suspects are currently in police custody and will be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations,” the statement read.
