The Ondo State Government has issued a stern warning against the illegal transportation of logs and flitches both within and outside the state, underscoring the critical need for strict adherence to forestry regulations aimed at protecting forest resources and enhancing the state’s economy.

The warning came from Mr. Olusegun Odusanya, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (Forestry/Produce sub-sector), during a stakeholder meeting with foresters and uniformed personnel in Akure on Wednesday.

Odusanya pointed out that the state’s forestry policies are not only focused on conservation but are also designed to stimulate economic growth by promoting value-added wood production.

“The state government is committed to safeguarding our forests while fostering value-added wood production in line with sustainable forestry practices,” he said.

He reiterated the complete ban on the movement of illegally logged wood and urged officers to address any existing revenue gaps.

The Permanent Secretary also reaffirmed his commitment to carrying out Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s mandate, particularly with regard to improving revenue generation and enforcing environmental sustainability.

In his address, the Director of Forest Management, Mr. Joseph Adeyekun, praised the ministry for organising the engagement, calling the meeting timely and vital for addressing operational challenges.

Similarly, the Assistant Director, Mrs. Oluwayemi Johnson, emphasised the importance of adhering to forest laws, pointing out that the ministry has a dual responsibility of both protecting resources and contributing to the state’s economic development.
