Omi Eko project appoints Segun Alabi as head of communications

The Omi Eko Project, a €410 million initiative aimed at transforming waterway transportation across the Lagos metropolis, has appointed Dr. Segun Alabi as its new Head of Communications and Media.

The appointment was announced by the Special Adviser on Blue Economy to the Governor of Lagos State and Project Coordinator, Mr. Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, who expressed confidence in Dr. Alabi’s ability to strengthen the project’s communications architecture and public engagement.

Mr. Emmanuel said Dr. Alabi brings extensive experience in communications, media relations and public affairs, which will be critical in advancing the Omi Eko Project’s vision and sustainability objectives.

In his new role, Dr. Alabi will oversee the development and execution of comprehensive communication strategies, manage media relations and stakeholder engagement, and promote public awareness of the project’s impact on urban mobility and environmental sustainability.

Describing the appointment, Mr. Emmanuel said, “Dr. Alabi is a highly accomplished corporate affairs professional with diverse experience spanning Pay TV, financial services, real estate, business membership organisations and the manufacturing sector.”

Dr. Alabi was most recently Assistant Director, Corporate Affairs and Communications at the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), where he led corporate communications, public affairs, stakeholder relations and event management.

His professional expertise covers reputation management, government relations, corporate social responsibility, public policy advocacy and digital communication strategy.

Widely regarded as a seasoned communications professional, Dr. Alabi is known for his ability to manage information strategically to support organisational goals.
Reacting to his appointment, Dr. Alabi expressed enthusiasm about joining the project team. “I am excited to join the Omi Eko Project.

This opportunity is truly a dream come true. While the task ahead is enormous, it is certainly achievable,” he said.
Dr. Alabi holds a PhD in English from the University of Lagos, specialising in Language Use and Communication.

The Omi Eko Project is a €410 million sustainable water transport initiative designed to reduce traffic congestion in Lagos by unlocking the state’s underutilised waterways. Supported by the European Union and private sector partners, the project represents a major step toward efficient and environmentally responsible urban transportation.
