A prominent politician, businessman, and human rights activist, Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has emerged as the official presidential candidate of the Accord Party for the upcoming 2027 general elections.
Hashim, a former chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) emerged as the Accord Party candidate following the successful conclusion of the party’s presidential primary election, which was held in line with the compressed electoral timeline outlined by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Olawepo-Hashim, a veteran political figure with deep roots in Nigeria’s pro-democracy movements dating back to the late 1980s, secured the party’s ticket amid efforts by the Accord Party to position itself as a formidable third force capable of challenging the dominant political parties in the country.
Party delegates and leadership affirmed his candidacy, expressing strong confidence in his structural vision, private sector background, and long-standing commitment to national development.
In his acceptance speech, the newly minted flagbearer expressed deep gratitude to the party’s leadership and delegates for the trust reposed in him.
He emphasized that his campaign would be anchored on restructuring the nation’s economic landscape, creating sustainable wealth, tackling systemic insecurity, and restoring hope to ordinary Nigerians who have been hard-hit by recent macroeconomic adjustments.
With six political parties having now finalized their presidential candidates, the political landscape is rapidly taking shape.
Political analysts note that Olawepo-Hashim’s candidacy presents a distinct option for the electorate, especially as smaller opposition blocks attempt to bridge regional and ideological divides to establish a cohesive challenge ahead of the 2027 polls.
