Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has presented a ₦939.85 billion Appropriation Bill for the 2026 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly, dubbing it the “Budget of Hope and Growth.”

Presenting the proposal on Tuesday, the Governor stated that the budget is anchored on the progress recorded in 2025, improved revenue performance, and his administration’s commitment to people-centered development under the SHINE Agenda.

A breakdown of the budget reveals a heavy tilt towards developmental projects, with over 68 per cent of the total sum allocated to capital expenditure.

The Governor noted that key sectors such as infrastructure, health, education, agriculture, and economic growth have been prioritized to drive the state’s development.

Reviewing the outgoing year, Governor Okpebholo highlighted security as a major success story of his administration in 2025.

He cited the recruitment of 2,500 officers into the Edo State Security Corps, the enactment of stronger laws, and improved logistics as decisive steps that prevented the state from becoming a safe haven for criminals.

“These actions significantly reduced insecurity and restored confidence across the state,” Okpebholo told the lawmakers.

He also pointed to significant improvements recorded in healthcare, infrastructure, and agriculture during the period.

For the incoming fiscal year, the Governor outlined ambitious plans to touch lives and grow the economy.

He promised the construction of new roads and flyovers, the upgrade of schools and healthcare facilities, and expanded agricultural investments aimed at job creation.

“From new roads and flyovers to upgraded schools, this budget is designed to touch lives, grow the economy and secure a better future for every Edo citizen,” he declared.

Governor Okpebholo concluded his presentation with a message of optimism, proclaiming that “A New Edo Has Risen,” as he urged the Assembly to give the bill a speedy consideration for the benefit of the people.
