Okpebholo accuses Obaseki of deceptive commissioning of uncompleted projects

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has sharply criticized the immediate past administration of Mr. Godwin Obaseki, accusing it of a disservice to Edo people by commissioning several projects that remain significantly incomplete.

The Governor made the allegation following an on-the-spot inspection of two major sites: the Stella Obasanjo Hospital and the Education Hub Complex at Iyaro.

Governor Okpebholo expressed dismay at the state of the Stella Obasanjo Hospital, which was previously declared commissioned by the Obaseki administration.

“I do not know why the previous administration commissioned this hospital when work was still ongoing,” Governor Okpebholo stated. “It is wrong to mislead the people with such gestures. Our duty is to finish what was started and ensure that Edo people get full value for every naira spent.”

Accompanying the Governor, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Cyril Oshiomhole, disclosed that the hospital is only barely 60 percent completed.

Dr. Oshiomhole also noted that many of the hospital beds had been recycled from the previous, older structure. The Governor observed that the administrative block and the theatre were still incomplete.

In response, Governor Okpebholo promised to complete the hospital before Christmas, assuring residents that the facility would be fully equipped and opened to the public shortly thereafter.

The Governor’s disappointment extended to the Education Hub Complex at Iyaro, where he described the commissioning as premature and misleading.

“This building was hurriedly commissioned without power, equipment, or any operational capacity,” Okpebholo lamented, stressing that there was “really nothing to commission.”

The complex is designed to centralize the state’s education activities, housing offices for the Ministry of Education, SUBEB, a Library Board, and other administrative units. Governor Okpebholo however promised to mobilize contractors within weeks to operationalize the facility and breathe life into the Ministry of Education.

Governor Okpebholo, who was accompanied by top government officials, stated that the purpose of the inspection was to gather first-hand information on the state of key infrastructure.

He vowed that his administration is committed to restoring integrity in governance by completing all abandoned or half-done projects.

He promised that the era of cosmetic governance and deceptive commissioning is over in Edo State.

“We are not here to play politics with the lives of Edo people,” he declared. “Our mission is to rebuild, restore, and ensure every project serves the people. Edo people deserve honesty and visible progress, and that is exactly what this administration will deliver.”

The Governor reassured citizens that his administration remains focused on accountability, transparency, and tangible results as it moves to accelerate work on the vital health and education infrastructure across the state.
