Success Ogunjobi emerged champion of the girls’ singles event at the first week of the 2026 NASCO/ITF J30 World Tennis Tour Junior Championship on Sunday in Abuja.
Ogunjobi rallied from a set down to defeat Khadijat Mohammed 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-1 and claim the Under-18 girls’ singles title.
The champion enjoyed an impressive run to the final.
She defeated Emmanuella Kwange 6-2, 6-0 in the quarter-finals before overcoming Toluwalashe Agunbiade 6-4, 6-1 in the semi-finals.
Mohammed also impressed en route to the final. She beat Lithuania’s Roneta Kacinskaite 6-4, 7-5 in the quarter-finals and defeated Jessica Togbe 6-4, 6-3 in the semi-finals.
Speaking after her victory, Ogunjobi expressed delight at successfully defending her title in Abuja.
“I feel very excited winning the first week of the 2026 NASCO/ITF J30 World Tennis Tour Junior Championship because I also won the 2025 edition in Abuja.
“I am happy to be here and to win it again,” she said.
The youngster also reflected on her performance in the doubles event, where she finished as runner-up.
“In the doubles, I made it to the final but we didn’t win. It still went well, and I am happy with the way I played even though we lost,” she said.
Looking ahead to the second week of the championship, Ogunjobi said her focus would be on recovery and preparation.
“My next focus is to get ready for the second week. I will try to recover and go for it again. I don’t have any injuries, so I am looking forward to competing,” she added.
The victory further underlines Ogunjobi’s growing reputation on the junior tennis circuit as she continues her impressive form in Abuja.
In the girls’ doubles final played on Saturday, Mohammed and Jessica Togbe defeated Ogunjobi and Sri Lanka’s Rashmi Wijewardana 6-3, 7-6(5) to claim the title.
The Newsmen report that the tournament was held at the tennis complex of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
The first week began on June 1 and concluded on Sunday, while the second week will run from Monday to Saturday, June 13.
Reporters state that players from 14 countries participated in the championship.
The countries were Nigeria, Cameroon, China, Great Britain, Canada, Sri Lanka, Liberia, Lithuania, India, Togo, Benin Republic, the United States, Sweden and France.
