Residents of Ogun State have criticised Governor Dapo Abiodun over the distribution of 40 SUVs to traditional rulers, raising concerns about governance priorities.

The vehicles were presented during a statutory meeting of the Ogun State Council of Obas in Abeokuta, where the governor said the gesture was in appreciation of the monarchs’ roles in promoting peace, stability, and grassroots development.

Abiodun also urged the traditional rulers to continue supporting security efforts and attracting investment to their communities.

However, the move has sparked widespread debate, particularly on social media, with many residents questioning the timing of the gesture amid infrastructural challenges across parts of the state.

Critics pointed to poor road conditions in areas such as Ijoko, Sango, and Ogba-Ayo, as well as limited access to healthcare facilities, including a shortage of ambulances.

Some residents described the initiative as a misplacement of priorities, arguing that public funds should be directed towards critical infrastructure and essential services.

Online reactions have also questioned the administration’s second-term agenda, with users describing the gesture as disconnected from the immediate needs of citizens.

Supporters of the government, however, maintain that traditional rulers play a vital role in community development and security, and therefore deserve institutional support.

The development highlights ongoing public debate over resource allocation and governance priorities in the state.
