Operatives from the Ifo Division of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested two suspects, 47-year-old Adeola Mathew and 48-year-old Rasheed Omoniyi, for conspiracy and unlawful possession of a firearm.
The arrests followed a successful, intelligence-led operation targeting a known criminal hideout in the Ifo area of the state.
At approximately 6:30 a.m. on Friday, May 9, 2026, detectives acted on credible information and raided a location along Ibogun Road in the NITEL area of Ifo. During the operation, Adeola Mathew was apprehended at the scene.
A subsequent search of the premises led to the recovery of a locally made pistol concealed within the hideout.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the recovered firearm had allegedly been provided to Mathew by Rasheed Omoniyi.
Following this lead, operatives successfully tracked and arrested Omoniyi. The weapon has been secured as an exhibit while investigators work to determine its origin and whether the suspects are linked to other criminal activities in the region.
The case is slated for transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCIID) in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further discreet investigation and subsequent prosecution.
Reacting, the Commissioner of Police for the Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni commended the operatives for their swift and professional response.
He reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to combating crime and ensuring the safety of all residents across Ogun State.
