Ogun State Government has formally rejected the engineering design submitted by Minim and Tonye Nigeria Limited, the contractor handling Senator Gbenga Daniel’s constituency project on Paddy Arikawe Oye Igbimo road in Sagamu.
The state ordered an immediate and substantial revision of the design and demanded full transparency in all submissions.
The directive followed the contractor’s unauthorized commencement of work on the state road, which violated regulations. The Ministry of Works stated that the submitted design falls below required specifications and is therefore unacceptable.
In a letter dated September 22, 2025, signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works, Engr. Dr. Yusuf I. O, the government instructed the contractor to clearly define the portion of the 3-kilometre road that the approved 260 metres will cover.
Records indicate that Daniel’s proposed project spans four phases, with only the first phase of 260 metres currently approved, while phase 2 of 740 metres awaits federal approval, and phases 3 and 4 remain conceptual.
The government further specified technical requirements, including Grade 20 concrete for binding, Grade 25 minimum for reinforced concrete bases, and high-yield tensile strength of at least 460 N/mm².
The contractor is now required to use 220mm-thick reinforced concrete pavement of Grade 35, preferably Grade 40, instead of the previously proposed 150mm Grade 20 pavement, with a stone base thickness of at least 200mm.
Also, the contractor must provide the full layout with elevations, grades, pavement reinforcement details, a list of engineering materials, quality assurance testing, and applicable design criteria codes in the revised submission.
The Ogun State Government emphasised that all work must strictly comply with these specifications to ensure durability, safety, and adherence to state standards.
