The Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has congratulated Nigerian NewsDirect on its 15th Anniversary and Awards Ceremony, describing the organisation as “family” and a valuable contributor to journalism in Nigeria.
Delivering the governor’s goodwill message at the event, his Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Hon. Kayode Akinmade, said the governor would have loved to attend but was held up by official duties.
According to him, Governor Abiodun had obligations in Delta State and would also be in Abuja, making it impossible to attend in person.
Nonetheless, he reaffirmed his strong relationship with the NewsDirect family.
He said: “NewsDirect is also our family. When the late publisher was alive, he was always with us. The Executive Director has kept the flag flying, and I believe the world has not yet seen anything. Greater achievements are still ahead,” he said.
Akinmade commended the organisation’s resilience and contribution to the media landscape, noting that the government is aware of the challenges confronting journalism in the country.
“We appreciate your contribution to the journalism profession. We have listened to some of the challenges affecting the media, and I believe that with time and constructive engagement, things will get better,” he said.
He described the awards presented at the ceremony as “truly deserving and of great value,” praising NewsDirect for maintaining credibility and standards.
