The Obidient Movement has strongly dismissed reports claiming that its National Coordinator, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, has been removed from office, labeling the publication as a fabrication by political opportunists seeking cheap relevance.
Reacting through a statement issued on Thursday, and signed by Onyeka Dike for the Media and Communications Directorate Team, the movement clarified that their presidential candidate, Peter Obi, never authorized any such directive.
The movement specifically called out a certain Francis Nnoli over allegations regarding an online publication linked to an alleged faction of the Obi Kwankwaso (OK) Movement.
Addressing the claims, the movement stated that “His Excellency Mr. Peter Obi did not remove Dr. Yunusa Tanko from any position,” adding that “he did not authorise any individual or group to issue such a statement.”
The leadership further stressed that authentic updates regarding key leadership changes would always come directly from verified personal channels.
“For the avoidance of doubt, nobody speaks for Mr. Peter Obi on sensitive matters of this nature,” the statement read.
“if there were something like that, he would have tweeted it himself on his X handle,” they noted.
Describing the incident as an expected trend as Nigeria moves toward another election season, the movement warned the public against desperate actors trying to exploit its brand for campaign donations, appointments, and political patronage.
The statement also condemned rumors of mass defections to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), clarifying that individuals claiming to take the movement along with them speak only for themselves, not for millions of Obidients.
While reaffirming that Dr. Yunusa Tanko remains the only recognized National Coordinator, the directorate called on security agencies to clamp down on political impersonators and warned mischief-makers to desist from using the platform for fraudulent enterprises.
