Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, has donated ₦25 million to Shanahan University in Onitsha, Anambra State.
Obi disclosed the donation in a statement issued on Saturday following his visit to the institution.
He noted that the contribution is part of his continued support for the university, which he has assisted on several previous occasions.
According to Obi, no nation can achieve sustainable development without investing heavily in human capital, emphasizing that education remains the most critical driver of progress.
He remarked that the more a society invests in education, the more sustainable its development becomes, adding that an educated state naturally unlocks greater prospects for growth.
During his visit, Obi commended the management, lecturers, and staff of Shanahan University for their dedication to producing morally upright, academically sound, and socially responsible graduates.
He noted that he felt deeply encouraged by the institution’s vision of building a better society through quality education.
He also encouraged the students to remain committed to their studies and to keep hope alive, expressing optimism that through discipline, hard work, and strong values, they would play a vital role in building the new Nigeria that everyone desires.
