The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dr. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, has praised the role of Chinese investments in transforming Lagos through critical infrastructure projects.

Dr. Obasa, who spoke on Monday at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, during the 76th anniversary celebration of the People’s Republic of China, noted that Lagos has witnessed remarkable development through Chinese-funded projects.

According to him, strategic investments in roads, rail systems, and bridges have reshaped the state’s economic landscape while improving the lives of residents.

He said: “Lagos has witnessed remarkable growth through significant Chinese investments in the development of critical infrastructure such as roads, bridges, and rail systems, which have enhanced our economic landscape and enriched our societies.”

The Speaker linked the achievements to the broader China–Nigeria Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which was strengthened during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s state visit to Beijing in 2024. He emphasised that the partnership has produced tangible results in trade, security, and bilateral relations.

He also praised China’s support for the Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that it aligns with Nigeria’s quest for sustainable economic growth, stability, and peace.

Earlier, the Chinese Consul General in Lagos, Yan Yuqing, revealed that bilateral trade between Nigeria and China reached $15.48 billion between January and July 2025. She described Nigeria as China’s second-largest trading partner in Africa and pledged continued collaboration across infrastructure, energy, education, and cultural exchanges.

Obasa called for stronger cooperation to tackle global challenges such as climate change and economic inequality, while expressing confidence in a shared prosperous future for both nations
