OAU final year medical student dies during examination

The management of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has announced the sudden passing of Oreoluwa Emmanuel Adewole, a Part IV medical student in the College of Health Sciences.

In a statement issued by the University’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, it was revealed that the unfortunate incident occurred during a clinical viva examination.

Adewole reportedly complained of sudden chest pain during the assessment.

Olarewaju noted that while the student was immediately attended to by his lecturers and fellow medical students, he sadly passed away despite prompt medical intervention and exhaustive efforts to revive him.

“This tragic loss has sent shockwaves through the university community,” the statement read.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire, on behalf of the Governing Council, Senate, staff, and students, extended heartfelt condolences to the parents, siblings, and family of the deceased.

He also commiserated with Adewole’s friends, colleagues, and the entire College of Health Sciences over the irreparable loss.

The University management revealed that it is currently engaging with the family and relevant authorities to provide necessary support and to better understand the circumstances surrounding the incident.
