The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has warned members of the public about a fraudulent, artificial intelligence-generated employment letters being circulated in its name.
The Commission disclosed that it has received reports of counterfeit job offers bearing the names of individuals not affiliated with the organization.
The NUPRC also raised concerns over fraudsters demanding money from unsuspecting members of the public under the pretext of helping them secure employment at the Commission.
According to the regulator, these fraudulent activities have been reported to law enforcement agencies, and the outcome of ongoing investigations is currently awaited.
Urging the public to exercise caution and avoid falling victim to recruitment scams, the NUPRC stated categorically that it is not currently conducting any recruitment exercise.
It added that whenever the Commission decides to recruit, the process will strictly adhere to existing laws and public service regulations.
The warning highlights the growing threat of fraudulent employment documents used to deceive job seekers, with the Commission drawing specific attention to the use of AI technology to generate realistic-looking offer letters.
The NUPRC advised the public to remain vigilant and reject any demands for money in exchange for non-existent job opportunities at the agency.
