The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has commenced the disbursement of ₦2,435,421,584.11 to the families and next-of-kin of 1,075 fallen officers.
The presentation was presided by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, during a solemn presentation ceremony yesterday at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The disbursement, facilitated under the Group Life Assurance and the IGP Family Welfare Schemes, covers claims spanning several policy years from 2018 through to the 2026 fiscal cycle.
Notably, the total sum includes outstanding insurance claims recovered from previous years, reflecting a strategic push by the current police leadership to clear backlogs and ensure that the beneficiaries of deceased officers receive their entitlements without undue delay.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Force Insurance Officer, ACP Lydia Ameh, highlighted that the payment reflects IGP Disu’s unwavering determination to prioritize the wellbeing of officers’ families.
She noted that the Force Insurance Unit has taken decisive steps to ensure strict compliance from insurance providers, emphasizing a renewed commitment to a service delivery model anchored on efficiency, transparency, and accountability.
In his keynote address, IGP Olatunji Disu described the ceremony as more than just a financial exercise, labeling it a solemn recognition of the ultimate price paid by officers in the line of duty.
He maintained that the welfare of personnel remains a central pillar of his administration’s agenda.
The IGP stressed that the presentation serves as a testament to the Force’s enduring obligation to honor the courage and service of its heroes while providing a necessary safety net for the loved ones they left behind.
Looking ahead, the Inspector-General assured the public and the police community that efforts are being intensified to modernize and strengthen welfare frameworks.
He revealed plans to leverage advanced technology to streamline claims processing, eliminate administrative bottlenecks, and foster a more transparent system of benefit disbursement.
The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed that the sacrifices of these officers remain invaluable to the nation’s peace and stability, pledging that the institution will continue to stand firmly by the families of those who dedicated their lives to the security of the country.
