The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has formally called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to suspend all elections until its authentic logo is correctly reflected on ballot papers and the party’s legitimate leadership is recognized.
In a letter dated August 25 and addressed to the INEC chairman, NNPP’s legal counsel, Ndubuisi Ukpai, cited ongoing court judgments affirming Dr. Major Agbo as the party’s national chairman. The letter warns that the commission’s continued inaction could contravene judicial directives.
“We remain counsel to the authentic leadership of the NNPP under Dr. Agbo and write at their instance,” the letter stated, noting that judicial review proceedings have already been initiated against INEC. The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory granted the party leave to seek an order compelling INEC’s compliance.
The NNPP also demanded that INEC refrain from recognizing expelled members, led by Dr. Ajuji Ahmed, who have purportedly convened a National Executive Committee meeting. The party described such gatherings as unlawful and in violation of binding court rulings.
The correspondence emphasized that any failure by INEC to comply with judicial directives could expose the commission and its officers to legal consequences, including contempt of court. The NNPP urged the commission to act in full accordance with the Constitution and maintain the status quo pending resolution of the matter in court.
