The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has commenced discussions with global financial institution JPMorgan Chase & Co. on potential financing opportunities for upstream, gas, and infrastructure projects.

NNPC disclosed this in a post on its official X handle on Wednesday, stating that its Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, received a delegation from JPMorgan Chase led by the firm’s Head of Global Payments, Max Neukirchen.

According to the national oil company, discussions focused on strengthening collaboration between both organisations, particularly in exploring financing opportunities for strategic projects across the upstream, gas, and infrastructure segments of the energy sector.

The parties also discussed improving access to international capital markets as part of efforts to support investment in Nigeria’s energy industry.

While no formal agreement was announced, the meeting underscores NNPC’s efforts to engage international financial institutions to mobilise capital for key energy projects.

Financing remains a critical component of Nigeria’s drive to expand oil and gas production, develop gas infrastructure, and improve energy security, with industry stakeholders increasingly seeking partnerships to bridge funding gaps.

NNPC did not disclose the value of any proposed financing or identify specific projects that may benefit from the collaboration.
