The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has signaled plans to introduce self-service fuel dispensing across its nationwide retail outlets.
The national oil company teased the upcoming launch through a series of posts on its official social media handles, drawing parallels between automated fueling and earlier technology-led consumer revolutions in banking and dining.
The company noted how Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) fundamentally eliminated long hall queues in banks, followed by self-order touchscreens that streamlined the fast-food customer experience.
The National oil company giant indicated that motorists will soon be able to dispense their own fuel directly, bypassing traditional pump attendant interactions to cut forecourt waiting times and enhance transaction transparency.
While NNPC looks to scale the model nationally, it is not the first downstream operator to explore the concept in the domestic market.
Indigenous energy company Sunbeth recently pioneered the model by launching Nigeria’s first fully self-service fuel station, demonstrating how automated payment interfaces and pump controls can function in local retail settings.
