The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has recognised three petroleum marketers in Adamawa State for their consistent adherence to regulations on accurate fuel dispensing.
The awards were presented by the NMDPRA State Coordinator, Bashir Kafur, during the agency’s 3rd Quarter Stakeholders’ Engagement Meeting held last Friday in Yola.
Kafur explained that the recognition forms part of ongoing efforts to promote fairness, transparency, and integrity in the downstream sector, stressing that while defaulters are often penalised publicly, operators who comply with regulations should also be celebrated.
“Our surveillance team visits filling stations unannounced and records measurements without informing the operators,” he said. “For the past two years, these outlets have remained consistent in dispensing accurately at zero. If you purchase 10 litres, you receive exactly 10 litres.”
The recognised companies are Maikadiri Nigeria Ltd, Fahimta Oil Nigeria Ltd, and NNPC Retail Affiliate (Madagali Oil).
Kafur encouraged other marketers to follow their example while reiterating warnings against diversion and smuggling of petroleum products. He added that supply to Madagali Local Government Area is currently restricted to two approved outlets due to security concerns.
Speaking after receiving the award, Isa Bapetel, owner of Maikadiri Nigeria Ltd, an independent marketer, expressed gratitude, noting this was the first official acknowledgment of his company’s integrity since entering the business.
“Independent marketers in Adamawa number over 500, and only two of us were selected. This motivates us to keep up honesty and good practice,” Bapetel said.
Tukur Madagali, Chairman of Madagali Oil, an NNPC retail affiliate, described the honour as a milestone, revealing that this was his station’s first public recognition in two decades of operation.
“I have always run my business diligently without altering meters. I encourage regulators in other states to adopt this initiative of rewarding integrity while penalising offenders to sanitise the system,” Madagali said.
Bello Haruna, Director of Fahimta Oil Nigeria Ltd, attributed the honour to fear of God and respect for humanity, adding that the recognition further strengthened their commitment to ethical business practices.
