Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) and the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) have opened talks on a strategic collaboration to support NLNG’s major asset intervention programme for Trains 1–6 of its Bonny Island plant.
This was contained in a statement jointly signed by Sophia Horsfall, NLNG’s General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Development, and Obinna Ezeobi, NCDMB’s General Manager, Corporate Communications Division.
According to the statement, the discussions took place during the Nigerian Content Stakeholders’ Retreat held at NLNG’s operational base in Finima, Bonny Island.
The statement reads partly:
“During the retreat, the General Manager Production, NLNG, Nnamdi Anowi outlined the company’s revamp programme named ‘Accelerated Asset Intervention (AAI).
“He explained that the initiative is expected to commence in 2026 and will require NCDMB’s support and relevant approvals to enable timely execution.
“According to him, the AAI programme is intended to overhaul the Trains and Common Facilities, which are key to operations.
‘“The goal is to implement predictive maintenance and continue to deliver sustainable top quartile and reliability performance, continue to deliver gas and value to the country and retain NLNG’s position as the best company in the country,’ he said.”
Responding, NCDMB Executive Secretary, Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe—represented by the Director of Capacity Building, Engr. Abayomi Bamidele—promised full board support for NLNG’s plans, stressing that the Board remains a regulator and business enabler in the oil and gas sector.
He recalled that NCDMB granted accelerated approvals for critical components of the Train 7 Project, enabling it to commence in 2020 despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
He emphasised the need for NLNG to prioritise Nigerian content and maximise in-country capacity in all proposed project packages, in line with the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act.
At the gala and award dinner marking the end of the retreat, the Executive Secretary praised NLNG for what he described as “giant strides” on Train 7, noting that the project currently employs thousands of Nigerians and contributes significantly to the economy.
Also speaking at the event, pioneer NCDMB Executive Secretary Dr Ernest Nwapa said NLNG had long been recognised as an “icon of Nigerian Content,” recalling its early voluntary compliance and its commissioning of the industry’s first skills-gap analysis, which helped shape national capacity-building strategies.
The event climaxed with the presentation of awards to companies and individuals for outstanding contributions to Nigerian Content development.
Recipients included NCDMB, Promat Coating Limited, EVOMEC Global Services Limited, ARCO Worldwide Services, and Seflam SGL Limited, among others.
