The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nandap, has suspended comptrollers overseeing the Lagos-Seme border corridor over alleged extortion by some officers.
In a statement issued on April 10, 2026, the Service reacted to reports accusing its personnel of misconduct at the busy international corridor.
Nandap condemned the alleged actions, describing them as unacceptable and a violation of the Service’s core values, ethics, and operational standards.
As part of immediate measures, the NIS said the affected comptrollers had been temporarily relieved of their duties.
The Service added that a comprehensive investigation had been ordered to identify all officers involved and ensure appropriate disciplinary actions are taken.
“The Service will not condone any act that undermines public trust or tarnishes its integrity,” the statement said.
The NIS reassured the public of its commitment to delivering professional, transparent, and efficient services across all entry and exit points in the country.
It also urged citizens to report cases of misconduct through its official social media platforms, X, Instagram, and Facebook, under the handle @nigimmigration.
The Lagos-Seme border remains one of Nigeria’s busiest land crossings, linking the country with neighbouring Benin Republic and facilitating significant trade and passenger movement daily.
