NIPCO Gas Limited has further solidified its leadership in Nigeria’s energy transition by commissioning two state-of-the-art Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations in Asaba and Warri, Delta State.
The launch marks a pivotal step in the company’s mission to provide cleaner, more affordable fuel alternatives while supporting the federal government’s drive toward a gas-based economy.
The commissioning ceremony, held under the auspices of the Delta State Government, was attended by high-ranking officials and industry stakeholders.
Representing Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Eze Emu, commended NIPCO Gas for its timely investment.
He noted that these stations offer a vital economic cushion for citizens following the removal of the fuel subsidy, providing a cost-effective alternative to petrol that will help lower transportation costs for both operators and commuters.
The Delta State Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Agofure, hailed the initiative as a game-changer for the regional transport sector.
He emphasized that the transition to CNG would improve the profitability of logistics businesses and reduce operating overheads for commercial drivers.
Speaking on the company’s vision, the Chief Operating Officer of NIPCO Gas Limited, Mr. Sanjay Tarat, reaffirmed NIPCO’s long-term commitment to enhancing Nigeria’s national energy security.
Tarat explained that the expansion into Delta State is a strategic move to reduce the country’s dependence on imported fuels and promote environmental stewardship.
“These stations are more than just fueling points; they are enablers of economic activity and inclusive growth,” he stated.
Providing technical insight into the new facilities, Project Manager Mr. Victor Attah revealed that the Asaba and Warri stations were constructed to meet rigorous global safety standards.
Together, they possess the capacity to service over 2,000 vehicles and tricycles daily, significantly improving fuel accessibility for both urban and intercity transporters in the South-South region.
The event featured a live fueling demonstration, showcasing the safety and efficiency of the technology to skeptical transport union representatives.
The project aligns with the Federal Government’s broader mandate to convert one million vehicles and establish 1,000 refueling points nationwide.
NIPCO Gas Limited expressed its appreciation to the Delta State Government and its technical partners for their collaboration.
