The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has concluded a high-level strategic retreat aimed at aligning its operations with both Presidential and Ministerial priorities for the maritime and blue economy sector.

The retreat, which brought together departmental and unit heads, culminated in the signing of Performance Bonds with the Agency’s Executive Management. The move is intended to entrench accountability and deliver measurable outcomes at every level of NIMASA’s operations.

Speaking at the event, the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of NIMASA, Dr Dayo Mobereola, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s determination to create a performance-driven civil service.

“The signing of this bond is not symbolic; it is binding. Every Head of Department and Unit must cascade the outcomes and expectations from this retreat to their subordinates without delay. Anyone found creating bottlenecks or underperforming will be held accountable,” he stated.

Mobereola explained that the Performance Bonds formalise a pledge to meet the Agency’s Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) while advancing the Federal Government’s vision of positioning the maritime sector as a major engine of economic growth.

The retreat featured intensive strategy sessions, peer review exercises, and in-depth discussions on unlocking the full potential of Nigeria’s maritime resources. Participants explored ways to strengthen NIMASA’s role in advancing the blue economy agenda, which is projected to create employment opportunities, expand trade, and attract both local and foreign investments.

This initiative represents another decisive step in the Agency’s ongoing drive to institutionalise efficiency, transparency, and accountability within its operations, while reinforcing its contribution to the nation’s economic development.
