Nigerian Breweries PLC has officially announced a landmark partnership aimed at promoting environmental sustainability through the establishment of a food-grade recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate (rPET) processing plant in Nigeria.
The company disclosed this strategic move in a corporate filing to the Nigerian Exchange Group, signaling a significant step in its commitment to a circular economy and the reduction of plastic waste.
The partnership involves a collaboration between Nigerian Breweries and other key stakeholders to form a dedicated rPET company.
This facility will be designed to collect, sort, and process post-consumer PET bottles into high-quality, food-grade recycled resin.
By localized production of rPET, the company aims to reduce its reliance on virgin plastics and decrease the environmental footprint of its packaging materials across its diverse product portfolio.
According to the statement, this initiative aligns with the company’s Brew a Better World sustainability strategy, which focuses on reaching net-zero carbon emissions and ensuring 100% of its packaging is circular.
