The Nigerian Army has stepped up efforts to strengthen collaboration with other security agencies through a specialised capacity-building workshop on protocol and liaison duties.
The training, organised by the Army Headquarters Department of Special Services and Programmes (DSSP), was held on Tuesday at the Nigerian Army Conference Centre and Suites in Abuja.
Declaring the workshop open, the Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, emphasised the importance of effective coordination and collaboration among security agencies in addressing Nigeria’s complex security challenges.
Represented by the Chief of Administration (Army), Major General Isa Abdullahi, the Army Chief noted that the evolving security landscape requires seamless engagement with sister services, intelligence agencies and international partners.
Delivering a keynote address titled “Navigating the Complexities of Managing Protocol and Liaison Duties within a Joint and Multi-Agency Environment,” the Army Chief highlighted the growing scope of the Army’s operational and diplomatic responsibilities.
He said increased bilateral cooperation and inter-agency engagements have made it necessary for personnel to develop stronger competencies in protocol management, liaison functions and professional conduct.
According to him, the initiative aligns with the Army’s broader strategy to enhance national security through improved coordination, adherence to global best practices and continuous institutional development.
He added that the training also supports his command philosophy of transforming the Nigerian Army into a more professional, adaptable and combat-ready force capable of effectively operating within joint and multi-agency environments.
The Chief of Army Staff commended the DSSP for organising the workshop in collaboration with subject-matter experts, noting that such engagements are key to strengthening synergy and improving operational effectiveness.
He also acknowledged the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, reaffirming the Army’s loyalty and commitment to its constitutional responsibilities.
In his welcome address, the Chief of Special Services and Programmes, Major General Aminu Garba, said the department remains committed to continuous professional development within the Army.
He noted that since its establishment in 2022, the DSSP has prioritised improving protocol and liaison functions to support the Army’s expanding operational demands.
The workshop featured expert-led lectures and interactive sessions focusing on diplomatic protocol, liaison management, order of precedence and official etiquette, aimed at enhancing joint operations and boosting public confidence in the Nigerian Army.
