The Nigerian Army has debunked claims circulating that the residence of Bishop Matthew Kukah, the Bishop of the Sokoto Catholic Diocese, and the Sokoto Catholic Cathedral came under an armed attack.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, the Army’s 8 Division and Sector 2 described the claims as misleading and unfounded, asserting that no such attack occurred in Sokoto State.
The statement clarified that the safety and security of Bishop Kukah remain guaranteed as he continues to discharge his Easter duties without hitch.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Osoba, the security of both the Bishop and the Sokoto Catholic Cathedral remains intact, with the Bishop currently fulfilling his religious obligations without any disruption.
Osoba concluded by stating that the Division, in collaboration with other security agencies, remains unwavering in its commitment to ensuring the safety of all residents in Sokoto State and its entire Area of Responsibility.
He added that robust security measures are in place to guarantee a peaceful and secure Easter celebration across the region.
