The Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Dr. Adegboyega Oyetola has called on Danish investors to explore opportunities in Nigeria’s growing marine and blue economy sector.

The appeal was made during a meeting with the Ambassador of Denmark to Nigeria, Mr. Jens Ole Bach Hansen, at the Ministry’s office on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.

Dr. Oyetola described Denmark as a key maritime partner and highlighted Nigeria’s readiness to provide a favourable investment climate, strong institutional support, and promising returns in the sector.

He commended Denmark’s support for Nigeria’s election into Category C of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council in November 2025, noting that the achievement strengthens Nigeria’s influence in global maritime governance.

The Minister also praised Danish investment in Nigeria’s port sector, particularly through APM Terminals’ operations at Apapa and Onne Ports, calling them strategic contributions to modernising the country’s maritime infrastructure.

He briefed the Ambassador on ongoing initiatives, including port modernisation, inland waterways revitalisation, fisheries and aquaculture development, enhanced maritime security, and marine biodiversity conservation, all aimed at driving sustainable growth, creating jobs, and positioning Nigeria as a leading maritime hub in Africa.

Ambassador Hansen congratulated Nigeria on its IMO Council election, calling it a recognition of the country’s growing leadership in maritime affairs.

He reaffirmed Denmark’s commitment to expanding investments, citing APM Terminals’ USD 1.2 billion investment and Denmark’s expertise in wind energy and green maritime technologies, which can support Nigeria’s sustainable maritime initiatives.

Both parties agreed to strengthen collaboration and explore additional areas for partnership, investment, and technical cooperation, signalling a deepening of bilateral relations and Nigeria’s commitment to harnessing the full potential of its marine and blue economy.
