Nigeria and Saudi Arabia are moving to deepen military-to-military relations as both nations explore new areas of defense cooperation to tackle shared security challenges.
The development followed a courtesy visit by the Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Nigeria, Yousef bin Mohammed Al-Balawi, to the Defence Headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday.
Receiving the envoy, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, affirmed Nigeria’s commitment to sustaining and expanding its longstanding partnership with the Kingdom.
Oluyede called for closer collaboration in initiatives that enhance the professional capacity and operational effectiveness of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
He expressed gratitude to the Saudi government for its continued goodwill and voiced optimism for tangible defense outcomes.
In his remarks, Al-Balawi described Nigeria as an essential African partner for Saudi Arabia and reiterated the Kingdom’s readiness to boost bilateral relations, particularly in defense and security.
The ambassador noted that stronger institutional and professional links between both armed forces would bolster their capacity to respond to common security threats, advance stability, and promote peace.
