The Nigeria Police Force on Tuesday marked the grand finale of the 2026 National Police Day with a ceremonial parade at Eagle Square, showcasing personnel from various units, formations, and commands across the country.
The colourful event also featured participation from sister security and paramilitary agencies, including the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Correctional Service, and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, underscoring growing inter-agency collaboration in tackling national security challenges.
Dignitaries at the event included Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu; Chairman of the Senate Committee on Police Affairs, Ahmad Abdulhamid Malam Madori; Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Police Affairs, Wale Ahmed; and Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, Mohammed Sheidu.
Also in attendance were Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Mohammed; Commandant-General of the NSCDC, Ahmed Abubakar Audi; as well as former Inspectors-General of Police, including Mohammed Dahiru Abubakar, Ogbonna Onovo, Mike Okiro, and Suleiman Abba, among other senior officials and stakeholders.
Speaking as Reviewing Officer, President Tinubu, represented by the Vice President, commended the Police Force for its resilience and dedication to duty. He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to deepening police reforms, enhancing operational capacity, and improving personnel welfare in line with national security priorities.
In his address, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, described the celebration as an opportunity to honour fallen officers and reinforce the core values of discipline, professionalism, and service.
He stressed the need for a more accountable, intelligence-driven, and community-oriented police force, assuring Nigerians of sustained efforts to build public trust and strengthen policing standards nationwide.
Activities marking the 2026 National Police Day included nationwide walkathons, community service initiatives, medical outreach programmes, public sensitisation campaigns, and the presentation of welfare cheques to families of fallen officers, initiatives aimed at deepening police-community relations and supporting personnel welfare.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to service excellence and the protection of lives and property, pledging to continue repositioning itself to meet the evolving security needs of the country.
