Nigeria has revealed that it has no plans to acquire or produce nuclear weapons.
Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim, made this known while speaking at the 108th Plenary Meeting of the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York.
During the session, he reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to a nuclear-free world.
He stated that the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission oversees all nuclear activities in the country, emphasizing that Nigeria continues to collaborate with other nations to achieve a world free of nuclear weapons.
Ambassador Ibrahim also called for a review of the UN Charter to enable decisive action against states that test nuclear weapons, stressing that Africa remains a nuclear-weapon-free zone.
His remarks came as the world marks the 30th anniversary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty.
