22 Jul 2025

The Nigerian Exchange (NGX) opened the trading week on a positive footing, with overall market capitalisation rising by 0.18 per cent to close at ₦83.39 trillion on Monday, 21 July 2025, buoyed by sustained investor interest in select equities across major sectors.

According to data from NGX Group, the All-Share Index (ASI) also advanced by 0.18 per cent, settling at 131,826.77 points.

The upward movement was driven by gains in blue-chip and mid-tier stocks, notably within the banking and industrial goods sectors. Qutix Plc, QIEI and NCR topped the gainers’ chart, each appreciating by 10 per cent to close at ₦4.07, ₦2.20 and ₦7.26 respectively.

Other notable performers included The Initiates Plc, which rose by 9.97 per cent to ₦11.03, and Cavation, up 9.75 per cent to ₦7.09 per share.

The fixed income market also posted a marginal rise, with capitalisation climbing by 0.10 per cent to ₦51.14 trillion. Exchange Traded Products (ETPs) recorded the strongest performance of the session, gaining 4.99 per cent to ₦29.89 billion, indicating renewed appetite for alternative investment vehicles.

Analysts attributed the improved market performance to cautious optimism among investors amid stabilising macroeconomic indicators and anticipation of corporate earnings reports.

Despite the uptick, traders remained selective, favouring value stocks expected to deliver robust second-quarter results. Liquidity conditions in the money and bond markets, where yields softened slightly, also played a role in shaping activity.

As the week progresses, analysts will be monitoring closely to determine whether Monday’s rebound signals the start of a broader recovery or a brief correction.
