NGA elect Yetunde Taiwo as new President

21 May 2026

The Nigerian Gas Association (NGA) has elected Yetunde Taiwo as its new president. She succeeds Akachukwu Nwokedi, the General Counsel and Company Secretary of Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Limited, who had led the prominent advocacy group since April 2023.

Taiwo brings an extensive background to the role, having launched her career in 1991 as a reservoir engineer at Chevron, a US energy major.

Out of her 35-year tenure in the energy industry, she has spent the last decade focusing strictly on gas development projects. After serving as a planning advisor within Chevron Nigeria’s Asset Management Division, she transitioned to BG Group in 2007.

By May 2011, she joined Seplat Energy which was then an emerging independent operator as the Head of Planning and Economics.

In January 2016, Taiwo stepped into the role of Head of Gas Business at Seplat, where she steered the expansion of what became one of Nigeria’s most rapidly growing domestic gas operations.

This trajectory led to her 2019 appointment as the founding Managing Director of the ANOH Gas Processing Company (AGPC).

AGPC is a midstream joint venture equally owned by Seplat and the Nigerian Gas Company. In this capacity, she managed a $600 million midstream infrastructure development designed to monetize 300 million standard cubic feet of gas per day.

This gas is sourced from the Assa North/Ohaji South fields, which span the Shell-operated Oil Mining Lease (OML) 21 and the Seplat-operated OML 53 in the eastern Niger Delta basin.

In January 2023, Taiwo joined FIRST Exploration and Petroleum Development Company (First E&P) as the General Manager for Integrated Gas Development.

Her deep industry specialization is well-recognized among her peers.

During a Q&A session at a Lagos Petroleum Club event in February 2023, which featured Gbenga Komolafe, the Chief Executive of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Taiwo introduced herself by stating, “I am Mrs. Yetunde Taiwo. They call me Madam Gas.”

The moniker was met with widespread laughter and enthusiastic applause from the audience, underscoring her reputation as a leading figure in the sector.
