The Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) and the Association of Power Generation Companies (APGC) have reaffirmed their joint commitment to enhancing electrical safety, enforcing technical standards, and improving power utilization across Nigeria.
This renewed partnership was solidified during a high-level courtesy visit by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of APGC, Dr. Joy Ogaji, to the NEMSA headquarters in Abuja.
During the session, Dr. Ogaji lauded NEMSA for its pivotal regulatory contributions to the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).
She specifically highlighted the agency’s rigorous enforcement of technical standards, the inspection of electrical installations, and the critical certification of electricity meters and instruments.
These functions, she noted, are the bedrock of ensuring the safety, reliability, and long-term sustainability of the nation’s power infrastructure.
Addressing the need for transparency and education, Dr. Ogaji emphasized that increasing public awareness regarding NEMSA’s activities particularly in meter testing and compliance monitoring is essential.
She argued that greater visibility would foster a culture of compliance among stakeholders and encourage more efficient electricity consumption nationwide.
To facilitate this, she proposed the creation of a regular collaborative platform between both organizations to foster knowledge sharing and coordinated progress within the generation sector.
Dr. Ogaji was accompanied on the visit by Mr. Sunday Adelake, Technical Aide to the Managing Director of Mainstream Energy Solutions Limited (MESL).
In his response, the Managing Director/CEO of NEMSA and Chief Electrical Inspector of the Federation (CEIF), Engr. Olusegun Adesayo, expressed his appreciation for the visit and the collaborative spirit shown by the APGC. Engr. Adesayo reiterated NEMSA’s unwavering readiness to partner with the APGC and other key industry players to ensure strict adherence to electrical standards and to elevate operational safety throughout the entire power value chain.
He further noted that sustained cooperation among sector players is vital for the overarching goal of strengthening Nigeria’s electricity grid while protecting lives and property.
This is achieved through the continuous inspection, testing, and certification of all electrical equipment.
The meeting highlights the growing importance of strategic institutional partnerships in driving meaningful reforms and ensuring a safe, sustainable electricity supply for all Nigerians.
