The National Commissioner and CEO of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Dr. Vincent Olatunji has charged aspiring Data Protection Officers (DPOs) to position themselves for the competitive global market.
Dr Olatunji made this known whne he paid a visit to training centers in Ikeja and the University of Lagos (UNILAG).
Speaking during the visit, he underscored a critical talent gap, noting that Nigeria currently requires approximately 490,000 certified professionals to secure its burgeoning digital economy.
Addressing participants during the inspection, the NDPC chief described the capacity-building initiative as a cornerstone of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He emphasized that the program is designed not only to safeguard privacy but also to serve as a strategic engine for job creation. By aligning Nigeria’s certification processes with international benchmarks, the commission aims to equip citizens with portable skills that are in high demand both locally and across the globe.
Dr. Olatunji lauded the trainees for their foresight in joining the program, reminding them that they are entering an ecosystem with vast, untapped potential.
He urged the participants to fully immerse themselves in the curriculum, noting that the NDPC remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering a culture of data privacy and excellence.
According to Olatunji, mastering these specialized skills will significantly enhance career prospects, transforming trainees into essential assets in an increasingly data-driven world.
