The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), says it successfully secured the conviction of 136 illicit drug peddlers in Jigawa in 2025.

The agency’s Commander in the state, Mr Hassan Kabaju, disclosed this to newsmen in Dutse, on Tuesday.

He said that the 136 convicted persons were part of the 577 drug peddlers, comprising 558 males and 19 females, who were arrested by the agency within the year under review.

Kabaju added that a total of 1944.3kg of substances suspected to be illicit drugs were seized during the period.

According to him, the seized illicit drugs comprised of 441.9kg of cannabis sativa, 1373.8kg of psychotropic substances and 128.5kg of other substances.

He said that the substances include: Exol-5, rubber solution, ‘suck and die’, pregabalin, among others.

“The command worked hard with great determination to limit the supply and abuse of hard drugs and other psychoactive substances,” he said.

Kabaju added that a total of 552 drug users were counselled by the agency, while 59 counselled male drug dependent persons were referred for treatment and rehabilitation at the command’s Drug Demand Reduction Unti (DDRU) facility.

He further stated that under its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitisation campaign, the command has delivered 39,383 drug preventive education lectures and advocacy talks in various schools, including tertiary institutions.

He, however, identified some of the challenges to include: lack of adequate vehicles to cover operations, and lack of operational machines such as photocopier, printer and computers.

“The command recorded modest achievements during the year as a result of the hardworking staff, support from the national headquarters, traditional institutions, residents, as well as the Jigawa state government,” he said

He expressed optimism that the Jigawa State Command will make the agency proud,
