The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has embarked on an emergency project to overhaul the electricity supply at its headquarters complex aimed at reducing diesel consumption.
The initiative was formalized during a handover ceremony where the project was entrusted to Income Electrix, an integrated power firm.
Engr. Theophilus Alagoa, the Director of Community and Rural Development (CRD), explained that the intervention is designed to transition the headquarters to the Port Harcourt Electric Distribution Company (PHED) bilateral feeder.
Represented by NDDC Deputy Director for Community and Rural Development Mr. Olorunlara Olumide, Alagoa noted that the primary objective is to secure a more reliable power source, thereby curbing excessive diesel costs and ensuring an uninterrupted operational environment.
The technical scope of the project is extensive, involving the construction of a 33KV double circuit line tapping from the Hypercity Roundabout and the installation of a 1.5MVA 33/0.415 distribution substation.
Tye commission will also upgrade the existing 500KVA transformer at its annex and the 33KV feeder switchgear at the supply end.
Engr. Erefa Alalibo, Deputy Director of Administration and Human Resources, confirmed that the project monitoring department will maintain strict oversight to ensure adherence to global standards.
Responding on behalf of Income Electrix, Mr. Umo Adam pledged a timely delivery in line with the commission’s specifications.
Dr. Tony Omah, Director II of Corporate Affairs, underscored the importance of rigorous needs assessments to ensure project sustainability.
He urged the contractor to maintain high execution standards while calling on beneficiaries to take ownership of the infrastructure once completed.
