The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has issued a strong public warning over a fraudulent social media scheme falsely advertising vehicle auctions in its name, describing the development as a calculated attempt to deceive unsuspecting Nigerians.

According to the Service, the scam involves impersonators using the image of a Customs officer to create credibility while promoting fake car sales online. The NCS categorically denied any involvement in such transactions, emphasising that the claims did not originate from the agency and are entirely misleading.

Authorities clarified that the officer featured in the circulating posts has no connection to any vehicle sales on social media, stressing that the account is a clear case of identity theft and digital impersonation designed to defraud the public.

In response, the Service urged citizens to exercise caution, avoid engaging with such accounts, and refrain from making payments under any circumstances. It also called on the public to report suspicious pages to help curb the spread of online fraud.

Reaffirming its commitment to transparency and public trust, the NCS advised Nigerians to rely only on its verified communication channels for accurate updates, noting that all official announcements are disseminated through recognised platforms.
