The All Progressives Congress (APC) is finalizing preparations for its National Convention, scheduled for March 27 to 28, 2026, with party officials confirming that a consensus method will be used to select national leaders.

Mary Ikoku, the Assistant Secretary for Media and Publicity for the convention made this known during a interview on Channels TV on Wednesday.

Speaking, Ikoku noted that while the party has agreed on consensus for core leadership roles, the approach may vary for other elective positions depending on local dynamics.

Ikoku highlighted that the party’s strategy aligns with the current Electoral Act, which recognizes only direct primaries and consensus as valid internal election models while excluding indirect primaries.

She attributed the party’s smooth transition to proactive planning, contrasting it with other political organizations that struggle due to a lack of preparation.

Meanwhile, the screening process for the National Working Committee has already begun, featuring prominent aspirants such as Nentawe Yilwatda for National Chairman and Ajibola Basiru for National Secretary, alongside several incumbents seeking to retain their seats.
