…Calls on Tinubu to act beyond politics, embrace reconciliation
The Nigerian Consultative Forum (NCF) has demanded that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu grant amnesty to Deputy Commissioner of Police Abba Kyari and Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, warning that the unity of the country is at risk if their cases are not resolved.
In a communiqué issued after its 10th Annual General Conference in Abuja, NCF Chairman, Dede Uzor A. Uzor, and Secretary-General, Dr Frank Udemadu, said the Forum’s position stemmed from the urgent need to reduce regional tensions and strengthen national reconciliation.
According to the communiqué, “a reconciliatory approach to the cases could create space for dialogue and help calm regional tensions.”
The Forum stressed that the profiles of both men carried national implications, insisting that addressing their cases through lawful and transparent means would not only calm tempers but also open doors for lasting peace.
It added that any steps by the Presidency must “be free from political manipulation” and should be directed at building a stable and united Nigeria.
The communiqué disclosed that the appeal had already been formally delivered to President Tinubu. The Forum urged the Presidency to continue engaging relevant stakeholders in order to widen the path for de-escalation and constructive dialogue.
