The Nigerian Navy has detained personnel involved in a confrontation with soldiers in Bayelsa State during President Bola Tinubu’s visit on Friday.
The altercation, whose footage circulated widely on social media on Friday night, showed uniformed officers engaged in a heated dispute.
In the clip, a driver of a Hilux vehicle branded “Naval Police” is seen stepping out to confront another driver. Although he later returned to his vehicle, a soldier carrying a rifle approached and punched him, sparking a physical fight.
The confrontation rapidly escalated, with personnel from both sides exchanging blows in a chaotic scene that drew the attention of stunned bystanders.
The incident reportedly occurred as the President was leaving the venue of an official function in the state.
As of the time of reporting, the immediate cause of the clash remains unclear.
Confirming the development on Saturday via his X handle, the Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abi Folorunso, said those involved had been taken into custody and are undergoing disciplinary action.
“The affected personnel are in custody and already undergoing appropriate administrative and disciplinary procedures in accordance with extant military regulations,” he said.
