Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has described engineering as one of the most critical professions driving national growth, stressing that the country’s development cannot be accelerated without prioritizing excellence and local capacity.

Speaking on behalf of his colleague governors on Tuesday at the 34th Engineering Assembly of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), held at the Velodrome, Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, Mutfwang noted that that subnational governments across Nigeria rely heavily on the expertise and professional integrity of engineers to deliver durable infrastructure and sustainable development to citizens.

The event, themed “Advancing Public Safety in Nigeria through Strategic Engineering Regulation, Enforcement, and a Tiered Sanctioning Regime,” gathered engineering professionals, policymakers, and stakeholders from across the nation to deliberate on strengthening professional standards.

Speaking, the Plateau Governor said, “Governments at the subnational level depend greatly on the expertise, guidance, and ethical conduct of engineering professionals in delivering durable infrastructure and sustainable development for our people. It is, therefore, imperative that the profession continues to uphold excellence while embracing innovation.”

He further commended Nigerian engineers for their unwavering commitment to local content, noting that the wealth of knowledge and competence within the country is vital for sustainable nation-building.

The assembly featured key addresses from notable leaders, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who was represented by the Minister of Works, Engr. Sen. David Nweze Umahi.

Other high-profile attendees included the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda; the President of the Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote; and the President of COREN, Engr. Prof. Sadiq Zubair Abubakar.

Expressing confidence in the regulatory body, Governor Mutfwang congratulated COREN on the successful event, stating that the resolutions reached at the assembly will significantly enhance public safety and elevate engineering practice across Nigeria.
