Naira trades at N1,342 to dollar

The naira extended its winning streak to eight consecutive sessions on the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market on Thursday, with the official NFEM rate strengthening to N1,342.3037/$.

The closing rate for April 16, 2026, settled stronger at N1,341.0100/$, the best close in 14 days and N0.98 firmer than Wednesday’s N1,341.9900/$.

At the official window, the dollar traded between a high of N1,344 and a low of N1,340 before closing at N1,341 /$.

The NFEM rate eased by N1.44 from N1,343.7409/$ recorded on April 15.

The exchange rates chart tracking March 17 to April 16 shows relative stability across major currencies. 

The pound sterling, SDR, WAUA and Swiss franc continued to trade above N1,700, while the euro remained above N1,500. 

The CFA franc, yen and South African rand held below N100, with the yen as the lowest-valued currency against the naira.
