The Nigerian naira maintained a relatively stable performance against the United States dollar on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, as activity in both official and informal foreign exchange markets reflected improved liquidity typical of the year-end trading period.
According to official market data, the naira traded around ₦1,459 to the dollar, showing only modest movement compared with recent sessions, as currency traders balanced holiday demand with increased dollar inflows.
In the informal (black) market, reports indicated a slight strengthening of the naira, attributed to improved foreign exchange supply ahead of the Christmas holiday, helping to ease pressure on the local unit.
Market watchers said the relatively calm trading environment suggests greater stability in foreign exchange flows compared with earlier periods of volatility, though currency pressures may reemerge once holiday demand subsides.
Analysts noted that over the past week, the naira has traded within a narrow band against the dollar, reflecting limited volatility and modest downward pressure on the U.S. unit.
Investors and importers will be watching closely for further movements in the coming days as the year closes and businesses adjust positions ahead of the new trading year.
