The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has alerted healthcare providers, patients, and the general public to the circulation of an unregistered product, ViroActive+ Capsules, in Nigeria.

The agency disclosed that the report was received as a complaint at its Bauchi State office, raising concerns over the safety and authenticity of the product.

According to NAFDAC, ViroActive+ is being promoted online as a herbal supplement claimed to boost the immune system, treat or cure viral infections, particularly Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), and improve general health.

NAFDAC emphasised that there is no credible scientific evidence to support claims that herbal capsules can cure HIV. It noted that HIV is managed with antiretroviral therapy (ART) prescribed by qualified medical professionals.

The agency further warned that the product is unregistered, with unclear ingredients and unknown manufacturing standards. As such, its safety, quality, and effectiveness have not been verified through any recognised clinical trials.

NAFDAC highlighted several potential risks associated with the use of such unverified products, including possible treatment failure if patients abandon proven HIV medication, exposure to unknown side effects or toxicity, delay in accessing proper medical care, and increased risk of consuming counterfeit or substandard products.

Product Details:

Product Name: ViroActive+
Batch No.: GVC/DEC/25/01
Mfg. Date: Dec. 3, 2025
Exp. Date: Dec. 2, 2027

The agency urged healthcare professionals and consumers to remain vigilant and report any suspicion of the sale of substandard or falsified medicines and medical devices to the nearest NAFDAC office.
