The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has warned Nigerians against the sale and use of unregistered Menofix Capsules marketed by PureEve over reports of liver damage.
The warning was contained in Public Alert No. 035/2026 issued by the agency on Tuesday.
NAFDAC said it started an investigation after receiving complaints about the product and possible liver-related side effects.
The agency confirmed that the Menofix Capsules by PureEve have not been registered and have not undergone tests for safety, quality or effectiveness.
NAFDAC explained that the unregistered product is different from two approved products with similar names in its database.
The approved products are Menofix Herbal Capsule with Reg. No. A7-103321L and Menofix Powder with Reg. No. A7-103342L. Both are manufactured by Gudugudu Herbal Worldwide Enterprises.
The fake Menofix by PureEve is being sold as a hormone-free, vegetarian herbal supplement for women in perimenopause and menopause. It is currently sold in open markets, pharmacies and online stores.
The agency said some ingredients in the unregistered product have been linked to serious liver problems including hepatitis, jaundice, high liver enzymes and, in rare cases, acute liver failure.
NAFDAC has directed all zonal directors and state coordinators to carry out surveillance across the country and confiscate the product.
The agency advised the public, retailers and healthcare workers to stop buying or using the product. It also urged Nigerians to report any suspected product or adverse reaction to the nearest NAFDAC office.
