The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has officially debunked viral media reports claiming that the Federal Government directed a suspension of the ban on sachet alcohol and 200ml PET bottle alcoholic drinks.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Agency described the publications as false and misleading, noting that it has received no such directive from the Federal Government. NAFDAC clarified that its regulatory actions remain firmly in place, as the Agency continues to operate strictly within the ambit of its statutory mandate to protect public health.
Director General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, emphasized that the Agency’s enforcement activities are guided by established laws and duly communicated government policies. She maintained that any official change in regulatory policy would be disseminated through formal government channels, rather than unverified news outlets.
The Agency expressed concern over the spread of misinformation, warning that such reports are capable of creating unnecessary public anxiety and economic uncertainty within the manufacturing sector. Industry stakeholders and the general public have been urged to disregard the claims and rely solely on information provided through NAFDAC’s official platforms.
Reaffirming its position, NAFDAC stated that it remains steadfast in its commitment to safeguarding the health of Nigerians and ensuring total compliance with food and drug safety regulations across the country.
