Nigerian music star Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, has announced a change to his birthday celebration date, distancing himself from the traditional November 18 date he shares with his twin brother.
In a message shared with fans, the singer stated that he will no longer celebrate his birthday on Nov. 18, urging supporters to refrain from sending messages or gifts on that day. He indicated that future celebrations will now hold on Nov. 30.
The decision comes amid his long-running rift with his twin brother, Paul Okoye, widely known as Rudeboy. Both were formerly part of the iconic duo P-Square, which dominated the African music scene with hits such as “Chop My Money.”
The group split in 2017 following internal disagreements, despite a brief reconciliation in 2021. However, tensions have persisted, with recent developments suggesting that the relationship remains strained.
Mr P’s latest move has sparked mixed reactions among fans. While some expressed disappointment over the continued fallout between the brothers, others reacted with humour and surprise at the decision to separate even their birthday celebrations.
Some commentators also pointed out that while the celebration date may have changed, the singer’s actual birth date remains the same.
Neither Rudeboy nor their elder brother and former manager, Jude Okoye, has publicly responded to the development.
The situation highlights the lingering divisions within one of Africa’s most influential music families, as fans continue to reflect on the legacy of P-Square and the ongoing separation of its members.
