Mohbad: Police grill Iyabo Ojo over alleged cyberbullying

The Nigeria Police Force has summoned Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo for questioning over allegations of cyberbullying, stemming from a live video she recorded in 2023 during her public campaign for justice following the controversial death of singer Mohbad.

Ojo made the disclosure in a statement shared on her Instagram page on Thursday, stating that she was invited to appear at the National Cybercrime Centre in Abuja in relation to petitions lodged against her.

“I was recently invited by the Nigeria Police Force, National Cybercrime Centre, Abuja, over petitions bordering on cyberbullying and other allegations concerning the live video I recorded a few years ago,” she wrote.

“In that video, I asked certain individuals to come forward for investigation into Mohbad’s sudden death, so that their innocence or otherwise could be established,” she added.

Mohbad, a fast-rising music talent, died in September 2023 under circumstances that sparked widespread outrage. Public anger intensified after videos circulated online allegedly showing the singer being harassed by his former record label boss, Naira Marley, and associate, Sam Larry.

Ojo emerged as one of the leading voices in the #JusticeForMohbad movement, repeatedly naming Marley and Larry and calling for their arrest and prosecution.

Amid mounting pressure, both men were arrested in October 2023 but later cleared in March 2025 when a Lagos court ruled there was no evidence connecting them to the singer’s death.

In December 2023, Naira Marley filed a defamation lawsuit against Ojo, demanding ₦500 million in damages and a public apology over her public accusations. The actress responded with a counterclaim seeking ₦1 billion.

The police invitation comes four months after the court exonerated Marley and Larry, but the legal and public fallout from Mohbad’s death continues to resonate across the entertainment industry and online communities.
